Bail FAQs
The East County Regional Center stands at 250 East Main Street in downtown El Cajon. It carries the East County docket for San Diego Superior Court: criminal, family, traffic, civil harassment and elder or dependent adult abuse restraining orders, and juvenile dependency.
Geographically this courthouse covers a lot of ground — El Cajon, Santee, Lakeside, La Mesa, Lemon Grove, Spring Valley, and the whole backcountry running east on the 8 through Alpine, Descanso, Pine Valley, Campo, and out to the county line. A defendant arrested ninety minutes into the mountains will have a case called on Main Street in El Cajon.
The custody picture is the part that costs East County families the most driving. El Cajon PD books into its own city jail on Civic Center Way; the Sheriff's East County stations hold briefly and transport. After processing, adult men typically go to San Diego Central Jail downtown and adult women to Las Colinas in Santee — meaning the courthouse, the jail, and the drive home are frequently three different cities.
As with every courthouse, no bail money changes hands here. The bond is filed at whichever facility actually has the defendant, and when bail is already at the schedule amount, that can happen tonight rather than after the arraignment.
Official court information: San Diego Superior Court — court locations
Court hours and jail release timing are two different clocks. East County Regional Center runs on a weekday court calendar; the jail holding your family member runs 24 hours a day.
| Courthouse building opens | 7:30 a.m., Monday – Friday |
|---|---|
| Business office phone hours | 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m., Monday – Friday |
| Main line (criminal, family, traffic, restraining orders) | (619) 456-4100 |
| Juvenile dependency business office | (619) 456-4238 |
| Saturday, Sunday & court holidays | Closed |
| Armstrong Bail Bonds | Open 24 hours, every day |
Court hours and jail release timing are separate systems. San Diego Superior Court keeps weekday hours; the facility holding a defendant accepts a bail bond at any hour, including nights, weekends, and court holidays.
San Diego Superior Court business offices answer phones from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Monday through Friday. Our San Diego office line, (619) 560-0106, is answered 24 hours a day.
Release timing follows the facility, not the courthouse. A municipal jail release can move in a couple of hours; a county facility commonly runs longer, and longer still overnight and on weekends.

Bail review and reduction motions in California run under Penal Code §1270.1, and the starting figure comes from the San Diego County Superior Court felony and misdemeanor bail schedule.
Bail on an East County case is posted where the defendant is being held, which on this side of the county is rarely the same city as the courthouse. El Cajon arrests start at the El Cajon City Jail; Sheriff's station arrests from Alpine, Lakeside, Santee, Rancho San Diego, Pine Valley, Julian, and Campo hold briefly and then transport.
After processing, adult men typically transfer to San Diego Central Jail downtown and adult women to Las Colinas in Santee. Timing varies with the transport schedule, so the first thing we do on an East County call is confirm where the person physically is before anyone drives.
When the bail amount is already set at the county schedule, we post immediately — nights, weekends, and holidays included. 10% premium, as low as 1% down on approved credit.
Every bond we write is issued by a California Department of Insurance licensed bail agent under Cal. Ins. Code §1800, at the statutory 10% premium.
A missed appearance at East County Regional Center can mean a forfeited bond and a bench warrant the same day. There is a statutory window to bring the defendant back before forfeiture becomes a judgment against the cosigner — call us immediately. Failure to appear bail bonds →

Who is writing this bond
Cecil C. Armstrong opened our Glendale office in 1926. Four generations later, Bill Armstrong (CEO) and Nikki Armstrong (Co-CEO & Licensed Bail Agent) — the fourth generation of the family — still run the company, and our agents still answer the phone themselves. When you call about an arrest in Los Angeles or San Diego County, you reach a licensed Armstrong agent, not a national call center that hands your file to a stranger in another state.
