Courthouse Overview
The Hall of Justice sits at 330 West Broadway, across the block from where the old downtown courthouse used to stand. Despite the name, this is San Diego's civil courthouse: independent calendar departments and the countywide small claims business office. It is not where a criminal arraignment happens.
That distinction is the reason this page exists. "Hall of Justice" sounds like the criminal courthouse, and people arrive here holding a criminal notice. Criminal calendars downtown are at the Central Courthouse at 1100 Union Street, a short walk north. If the paperwork says a department number and you are not certain which building, read the address line on the notice — not the building name.
Small claims is the other reason someone lands here without meaning to. The countywide small claims business office operates from this building, so filings and questions route to Broadway even when the dispute itself is nowhere near downtown.
For bail purposes, this building is a landmark rather than a destination. There is no bail counter, no custody, and no criminal arraignment calendar. What matters is knowing that before you spend a morning in the wrong lobby.

Court hours and jail release timing are separate systems. San Diego Superior Court keeps weekday hours; the facility holding a defendant accepts a bail bond at any hour, including nights, weekends, and court holidays.
San Diego Superior Court business offices answer phones from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Monday through Friday. Our San Diego office line, (619) 560-0106, is answered 24 hours a day.
Release timing follows the facility, not the courthouse. A municipal jail release can move in a couple of hours; a county facility commonly runs longer, and longer still overnight and on weekends.
