Bail FAQs
The South County Regional Center is at 500 Third Avenue in Chula Vista, in the civic center area a few blocks off the 5. It carries South Bay's criminal, family, traffic, and restraining order calendars — Chula Vista, National City, Imperial Beach, Bonita, and the southern reach of the City of San Diego down to the border.
Custody is close by. The South Bay Detention Facility sits nearby on Third Avenue and takes South Bay bookings, though longer holds move out to the Otay Mesa complex — George Bailey for men, and Rock Mountain and East Mesa in the same corridor.
Two operational notes worth knowing before you drive down. This location no longer runs a civil and small claims business office, so those filings route elsewhere in the county. And misdemeanor walk-ins are not accepted here as a matter of course — matters are handled by appointment. If you were planning to simply show up at a window, call the courthouse first at (619) 746-6200.
Border proximity adds one more variable that is specific to South County: some arrests in this part of the county are federal rather than county matters, and a federal hold is not a county bail situation at all. We identify which system has the person before quoting anything.
Official court information: San Diego Superior Court — court locations
Court hours and jail release timing are two different clocks. South County Regional Center runs on a weekday court calendar; the jail holding your family member runs 24 hours a day.
| Courthouse building opens | 7:30 a.m., Monday – Friday |
|---|---|
| Business office phone hours | 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m., Monday – Friday |
| Criminal, traffic & restraining orders | (619) 746-6200 |
| Family Court Services | (619) 746-6097 |
| Saturday, Sunday & court holidays | Closed |
| Armstrong Bail Bonds | Open 24 hours, every day |
Court hours and jail release timing are separate systems. San Diego Superior Court keeps weekday hours; the facility holding a defendant accepts a bail bond at any hour, including nights, weekends, and court holidays.
San Diego Superior Court business offices answer phones from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Monday through Friday. Our San Diego office line, (619) 560-0106, is answered 24 hours a day.
Release timing follows the facility, not the courthouse. A municipal jail release can move in a couple of hours; a county facility commonly runs longer, and longer still overnight and on weekends.

Bail review and reduction motions in California run under Penal Code §1270.1, and the starting figure comes from the San Diego County Superior Court felony and misdemeanor bail schedule.
A South Bay bond is filed at the facility holding the defendant. On a fresh booking that is often the South Bay Detention Facility on Third Avenue near the courthouse, or a city jail in Chula Vista or National City before transfer.
Longer county custody moves to the Otay Mesa corridor — George Bailey Detention Facility for men, with Rock Mountain and East Mesa in the same area. Women go to Las Colinas in Santee, which is the long drive from South Bay. We post at all of them.
Near the border, confirm the system before the money. A Border Patrol or federal arrest is a federal detention matter, not a county bail schedule matter, and no county bail bond will release someone on a federal hold. We check first and tell you plainly which one you are dealing with.
Every bond we write is issued by a California Department of Insurance licensed bail agent under Cal. Ins. Code §1800, at the statutory 10% premium.
A missed appearance at South County Regional Center can mean a forfeited bond and a bench warrant the same day. There is a statutory window to bring the defendant back before forfeiture becomes a judgment against the cosigner — call us immediately. Failure to appear bail bonds →

Who is writing this bond
Cecil C. Armstrong opened our Glendale office in 1926. Four generations later, Bill Armstrong (CEO) and Nikki Armstrong (Co-CEO & Licensed Bail Agent) — the fourth generation of the family — still run the company, and our agents still answer the phone themselves. When you call about an arrest in Los Angeles or San Diego County, you reach a licensed Armstrong agent, not a national call center that hands your file to a stranger in another state.
